Serena Kojimoto - Artisan of Handmade Jewelry

Metalsmithing to create handmade jewelry is a beautiful craft. I think most people think a metalsmith is that burly guy with a big hammer smiting an anvil to forge a sword or knife. Well, the anvil might be a little smaller, but these artisans use that same time honored tradition. My sister Serena Kojimoto has been studying and creating jewelry since 1988. She initially studied jewelry making under Christina Smith at Pasadena City College CA and then moved to New York City to further her education in Metalsmithing and 20th Century Design. She graduated with a Bachelor's of Fine Art Degree in Product Design. Inspired by functional forms and everyday objects, her jewelry has a timeless quality. Serena owns the store WORKSHOP in Atwater Village, CA. It is both her artist's workshop and retail jewelry store. The images of handmade jewelry in this series were created at her store.
